OUR VALUES

ABOUT US

Pioneer Catchment & Landcare Group Inc. (PCL) is a non-profit, community-based Landcare organisation incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (Qld).
Formed in the early 1990s as one of Queensland’s first catchment groups—originally known as the Pioneer Integrated Catchment Management Association (PICMA)—PCL has been at the forefront of local environmental stewardship for more than 30 years.
Based in Mackay, PCL’s catchment spans over 3,000 square kilometres, stretching from Midge Point and the Whitsunday region in the north, to Bakers Creek and Sarina in the south, and extending west through the Pioneer Valley to Eungella, the Clarke Connors Range, and Nebo.
PCL is grounded in a deep commitment to protecting and conserving the region’s natural environment—its rich biodiversity, remarkable wildlife, and the living systems that sustain our communities. Over the decades, PCL has delivered a diverse range of environmental initiatives aimed at safeguarding creeks, coastlines, forests, floodplains, and hinterlands, ensuring the long-term resilience of native flora, fauna, and foundational ecosystems.
In recent years, PCL has significantly expanded its capacity, delivering large-scale ecological restoration, revegetation, and land management projects across diverse landscapes. Our team includes highly qualified and experienced professionals specialising in habitat rehabilitation, invasive species management, ecological assessment, and community engagement.
Through strong partnerships with landholders, Traditional Owners, government agencies, schools, and industry, PCL works collaboratively to create, support, and scale place-based environmental initiatives that nurture the landscapes we cherish and strengthen the resilience of our precious natural systems.
